Whodunnit, Darling?

October 2-25, 2026

By Charles Edward Pogue & Larry Drake

Directed by Jenny Martinez

"A matter of life and death!" reads the telegram that urgently summons Damocles Cole, gentleman sleuth, to a dude ranch. It was death … Dam's client, Horace Crenshaw, has been both stabbed and shot. But Dam notices the telegram was sent after Crenshaw was already dead. Dam's ex-wife, Daphne, sent it. They're divorced because spunky Daph wrote a lurid murder mystery based on one of Dam's exploits. She even fashioned her detective hero on him. Dam was not flattered. Daph has lured him to the scene of the crime because she desperately needs a little inspiration for a sequel … and there's another reason—she's still in love with him. But Dam plays it close to the chest, both with Daph and the eccentric array of suspects: Lomax, Crenshaw's partner, whose voluptuous wife, Vera, was making a play for the deceased; Tex, the crusty cowboy owner of the dude ranch, heavily mortgaged to Crenshaw and Lomax; and, not least of all, Tommy Delbert, Crenshaw's playboy nephew, who blithely admits he hated his uncle's guts. And when Dam finds that Daph is Tommy's weekend date, he spares her neither his suspicions nor the third degree. Dam wades through clues, alibis, Daphne's helpful interference and a meddling country sheriff, Elmo "Moose" Lodge, with his own theories. But without spilling his cocktail or ruffling his tuxedo, Dam finally gathers all the suspects in a room for the final solution to both the mystery and his oddball romance with his ex-wife. If you love the wisecracks and witty repartee of The Thin Man films, you'll love Whodunnit, Darling?. The play is set in the 1930s, the era of the sophisticated sleuth.

The Charitable Sisterhood Christmas Spectacular

December 4-2, 2026

By Bo Wilson

Directed by Mychelle Albury

Christmas, 1977, is only three weeks away, and the ladies of the Charitable Sisterhood are preparing for Second Trinity Church's annual Christmas Spectacular … but they're having trouble staying focused on their preparations because there's a criminal on the loose—someone has stolen the baby Jesus figure from his place in Second Trinity's nativity scene. Sisterhood leader Bea Littleton is certain that the culprit is her longtime rival, Lucille Orton, from First Salvation (a place of extremely strict beliefs just up the road). Bea and the other sisterhood members decide that they need help getting to the bottom of things, and they call in honorary member and private investigator Janet Murchison to delve more deeply into things and see if she can determine who the perpetrator is. By show time, Janet is starting to think she knows exactly who is guilty of what … but the truth can't be revealed until the end of the Spectacular. As a result, we watch from both onstage and backstage, as the sisterhood performs sacred songs and satirical skits (after all, where else does Santa meet the Wise Men at the manger?). The fun doesn't let up until the hilarious revelation at the show's climax, which leaves the audience and the sisterhood filled with the very best spirit of the Christmas season.

The Murder Room

February 5-28, 2027

By Jack Sharkey

Directed by Pat Thomson

The Murder Room by Jack Sharkey is a zany, three-act mystery farce that functions as a tongue-in-cheek spoof of classic British crime thrillers.

The story centers on newlyweds Edgar and Mavis Hollister at their estate, Bynewood Cottage, in Yorkshire, England. Unbeknownst to Edgar, Mavis is a scheming fortune hunter who is still involved with her secret lover, Barry. Only two days into the marriage, Mavis attempts to rid herself of her new husband by shooting him with what she believes is a loaded revolver (though it turns out to be blank cartridges) and then poisoning his cocoa.

Chaos ensues when Edgar's "body" completely vanishes from the room. As Mavis tries to cover her tracks and claim the inheritance, a string of eccentric characters arrive.  As the investigation progresses, the house becomes a revolving door of mistaken identities, secret passageways, fake accents, and hilarious misunderstandings. The story plays to  the sheer absurdity of the characters trying to figure out who is dead, who is alive, and who is tricking whom.

THE MURDER ROOM is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
